The book am reading now...

My reading habits is going places...LOL :) Actually, this time i picked up a book thatz neither a Fiction nor any self-help books but this book is about my country, India! This book is written by the renowned BBC World India correspondent Sir Mark Tully and the title of the book goes like 'India in Slow Motion'!! Hmmm..As the name suggests, Sir Mark Tully speaks about the practices of India, where it stands, where it is heading to....His real life, 25-years of Indian experience, poured out in this book... I have started reading this and i am getting to know more about the real India we know! Yes, yesterday my brother asked me why r u reading this when v already know the true picture of how our country is for which, i think the answer is: We only know the tip of the iceburg but we dont know the real reasons/causes of this and how depth the iceburg is....So, to get this picture, better read it.... Happy Reading! :) [ This is bit ironical 'coz even though i love reading, i

Sudoku madness!

Now a days, am caught up with this Sudoku puzzle madness!! I bought a book related to this, having lot of sudoku puzzles and am solving this...(trying 2) :)

Amazing concept called ‘Bangalore One’!

Yesterday, as my mom wanted to pay the BSNL Mobile bill, I drove her to ‘Bangalore One’ center, near my house. This concept of giving a good customer service, all-in-one kind of service, initiated by the Government of Karnataka has been really wonderful! When you enter the Bangalore One center, you feel as though you are in a posh company office, with all tiled flooring, around 10-12 counters each having a state-of-the-art computer with a Bar code scanner and each counter provided with a printer. The counters are designed so that the computer monitors are below the table so that the customers can speak face to face with the counter representatives! These really impressed me and let me tell you, for the first time, I felt that the tax we pay is getting utilized to some extent, in the form of Bangalore One! Well done and keep it up, Karnataka government!

The amazing 4kms ride in auto

On the Friday afternoon, I wanted to go to ITPL (International Technology Park, home to many MNC software companies), which is around 4kms from my office, in Whitefield. The time was around 1205hrs when I came out of my office gate and went to an auto-rickshaw standing out there. I asked the driver to come to ITPL for which, he said ok. Then, when i was about to sit in the auto, that driver asked me to pay Rs 40/-! The normal fare from my office to ITPL is around Rs 20/- (with Meter) but this fellow asked me to pay double the amount, that too in the broad day light!! When I asked him why, he started to tell that the normal fare (with Meter) will be Rs 25/- (one lie here!) and Rs 15/- extra is for him because 'he doesn’t get any passengers to come back here'. When i told him that from ITPL, he can get people and also there is an auto-stand out there, that driver did not agree and told that 'we people are not supposed to stand there'!! So, I moved out of that auto and wen

Yesterday (01-Dec-05), in our department, as part of the on-going 'Japan Week', there was a function that involved lot of games, skit and dance and some eating too!! :) The first game was to wrap a tall person from the team (there were many teams) with the toilet papers provided!! And, due to my height (am 6ft 2in), i was obviously one among the many involved in the wrapping... And my team did it to me...for 3 mins, i was wrapped continously with the paper and i was mummified!!!! Here is the snap of me in this 'avataar'...:)

Weekend @ Chocolate!

This weekend, after a long time (almost 1-1.5 months, as i was away in Tokyo!!), me and my 2 close buddies, planned for an saturday evening outing...@ Inox theatre, in Bangalore...2 watch some movie.... Initially planned for a Kannada movie ( Jogi ), the timings did not suit us (we met at 1600hrs but the movie was scheduled 2 play @ 2130hrs!)...so we bought ticket for a newly released movie called ' Chocolate '! But we couldnt get the ticket for 1600hrs show and hence we bought the ticket for 1900hrs show... It was in a way good as 1. we got good amount of time 2 chit-chat (after a long time) 2. we had not seen the mall in which this theatre is...called Garuda Shopping Mall... So, we roamed around the mall for some time...(all window shopping!!)...the mall is somewhat ok, bit small and congested compared 2 another mall which bangalore got a year back (Forum Shopping Mall)...Anyway, we suggested roamed and roamed all the 4 floors of the mall and finally came 2 the Food Court o

Weekend (27/08 and 28/08) in Tokyo...

Hope u r doing fine...am doing fine here...:) On Saturday, me and my colleague went out to discover more of Tokyo and here is some glimpse of it! :) On Sunday, since my colleague has a family and is busy with them, i went out alone to find more and more of this 'World's Costliest city'!! On Saturday, we went to 1. Tokyo Tower (inside that is a Wax museum - of most famous figures of World history! From India, they have Gandhi and Mother Teresa) 2. Asakusa - Sensoji Buddhist temple (one of the biggest temples in Tokyo) 3. Ueno - a big park and to a market called 'Ameyoko' ...very famous market... And then i went 2 his house...met his wife and his little kid (Ku Ya)..very nice and cute baby! stayed there for some time and then came bk 2 room... Check the links sent by my colleague (at the end of this mail)....these snaps r from his camera...(i feel somewat dark...??) mine, yet to give for developing!) do tell me if you could open all the links (dont try 2 download

Landed in Tokyo...

=================================================================== First Mail =================================================================== am doing fine here... i landed in Narita International (Tokyo) at around 4.45pm (flight was delayed by 1 hr!)...so, after immigration and other formalities, i reached the airport helpdesk @ 5.30pm...i took a bus called @ `Airport Limousine` (3000 JPY) to the Shinagawa area...as there was huge traffic jam (even though it was huge...it got cleared within 15-20 mins! such a disciplined and neat maintained ppl here, infrastructure is excellent....same but some more than Shenzhen!!)...i reached the area at 1930hrs...to find that nobody knows my staying place (Nakanobu)...finally i caught hold of a lady (who cud understand english) and requested her 2 get a taxi for me to this place...that taxi driver said ok but later was confused with the location! So, we rounded and rounded and finally after 40mins...i somehow reached my place...u know the taxi

MIRACLE in my life!

Yes, u read that correctly!! I and my bro saw a miracle happen to us... The stuff goes like this... Yday evening, i went home early and was thinking of going out for dinner, along with my bro (since my mom and dad are out-of-station). Nearing my house, i saw the new Domino's Pizza outlet open and there i decided that vl go there tonite for having a gr8 pizza!! So, as thought, i went home and pulled my bro 2 come out soon so that v can grab a delicious pizza and fill our stomach! :) When i was driving my 2-wheeler (my bro in the pillion rider seat)..he was keeping the house key in his breast pocket..In the road, therez a small hump that i usually ignore and drive straight without applying brakes..this time also i did that and ...and...the most shocking and tension-giving thing in my life happened!! The house key he was keeping in his shirt-pocket suddenly popped out, after i ran my 'rocket' on that hump and it fell off!!!!!!!!!!! The time was around 2000hrs and i could defi

What is the connection b/w MTR and a Rocking pub?

Hmmm...pretty strange comparison right?? :) Ya, this weekend had been a good one..with one of my dudes coming home and other one joining us later... First we went to MTR (the good old Mavalli Tiffin Room)...this happened after a lot of 'brainstorming' about the place to go! I was going to this place after a very very long time (believe it or not...after 7 damn years!)...had some light 'tiffin' and the good old kapi! :) When it was over, i personally think that its not that much great place now to eat...with whatever he is charging, the same stuff i can get it outside the quanitity-wise, it will be the same...:) Fine, after 1 hr of great 'tiffin' eating...we set on to my friends' company premises...where we played good TT and then later on, we hit one of the great and famous pub in bangalore...called 'Purple Haze'! I had been hearing about this from last 1-2 years but not been to this..so, i thought ok...let me see... but man...but....wat a place it i

100 years of electricity in Bangalore!!

Electrifying: City will mark century of light Deccan Herald Hydel power was used from the Shivanasamudram Station to light the first electric bulb in Bangalore over a century ago. Light has travelled a century in Bangalore, literally. Friday marks the 100th year of electrification in Bangalore, which put it on the country’s map as among the first to be lit through hydel power. The City’s race with time has seen its surging demand for power met with erratic and at times inept supply. With a customer base of around 22,00,000 and monthly revenue of Rs 265 crore, the picture just seems to get bigger for Bescom. Catering to around 16,00,000 households, Bescom supplies 18 million units of power every day with 52 sub-stations. But if the city’s growth rates are any indicators, the numbers are all set to go north. It was on August 5, 1905 that the then member of the Viceroy’s Council John Hewett inaugurated the first lighting scheme for Bangalore by switching on the power sub-s

"Ricardo Semler - Brazil's Caring Capitalist"

(Courtesy: SBS World News, Australia) With John Howard proposing radical changes to this country's industrial relations system - a look at a very different system with a very different boss on the other side of the world. In Brazil, on the factory floor and in the office, workers at the SEMCO manufacturing and services conglomerate pretty much call their own shots. Some might call it Anarchic Socialism, maybe others, cutting-edge capitalism - whatever, it's certainly paying financial dividends. Indeed, it's so successful that it's unorthodox "worker participation" approach is being extended to other fields as well. Well you might ask is there anything this bold Brazilian experiment could teach us here in Australia? Imagine if you will, students sacking their teachers! SBS economics correspondent Peter Martin starts his report in exotic Rio. REPORTER : Peter Martin Sunny Brazil is a magnet for tourists. Each year thousands flock here looking for sun, sand an

Sir..credit card beka??

This title is with reference to the 'anonymous' calls i get in my office! (am not alone here...read on...) Caller : Hello Me : Hello Caller : Sir, i am calling from XXX bank. (Can i have 2 minutes of your time sir.) { denotes optional, some callers request for this...some dont...keep on talking:) } This is regarding a life-time free Credit Card from our bank, which we are giving for free! Me : I am not intrested in Credit Cards. Thank you. (The caller still does not 'spare' me) Caller : Sir, why dont you hear the benifits of this card and then decide on it. Me : No, i am not intrested and dont like having { sometimes...i say 'i hate'...this may hurt but the pestering stops! } credit cards...So, thank you. (Hope she leaves me) Caller : Sir, can i get some references of your friends who might be intrested in this card? (Should i say, ok..one sec, then standup from my seat and make a broadcast asking for anybody intrested in this credit card!!??!!) Me : Nope, i do

A company called SEMCO!

From last 2 days, am reading a book called ' MAVERICK: The Success Story Behind the World's Most Unusual Workplace ' written by a guy called Mr. Ricardo Semler. This book talks about a company in Brazil, South America, called SEMCO (Short form for Semler and Company!). Hmmm...got the link between the author and the book?? No?...Yes?...Got it?... Ok..i will give it...Ricardo Semler is the CEO of this company SEMCO, which was setup by his father, Mr.Antonio Semler!! As the company website says..."Since it’s founding in 1963 as a sheet metal fabrication company with five employees, SEMCO has built a reputation as a world-wide product innovator in the science of air movement, noise abatement, and air quality, with more than 300 employees and more than 300 manufacturer’s representatives." As the name of the book suggests, this company is totally off-the-track among the other companies in the world! What i mean is that, in this company...there is no fixed work-time, e

Financial Capital Mumbai is FLOATING!!

Wow! what a rain it is...its still pouring and the forecast is that this pouring is not gonna leave mumbai for next 48 hours! Mumbai is facing a 'deadly tsunami'...lot of people stranded everywhere, every nook and corner of the city...2 much man..2 much!! No trains, No buses, No flights (Airport is Closed!!)...can just imagine the situation over there! A good equation is: Mumbai - Locals (trains) = Lifeless!! I remember, when i and my folks had faced the same situation (Good god, not this much heavy rains..but still it was good enough 2 cut down power and make the trains come 2 a standstill!) where on a sunday (in 1994), me and my folks had gone for an outing in Fort area and late that evening, came back to VT station. As it was slightly raining, we somehow managed to reach the station...but when we reached, the situation was like very less trains (due 2 downpour in other parts of the city) and hence lotz and lotz of people waiting for the train! Finally, somehow we managed to

Fucked up by Tax!! :((

This friday, while i was filing my I-T returns, i got a huge shock of my life! I had 2 Form-16s (due to 2 companies i was into this year!) and hence when clubbed, the figures really amazed me and in turn gave me the shock of my life! After some calculation, i have to pay INR 25k more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In simple words, i am FUCKED up!! :((((((((((((((((((( I had paid nearly INR 51k as taxes via TDS and still, i have 2 cough-up this amazing sum! Its ruining my life man....enough of earning and enough of paying 30% of that amount as taxes...:((

About Dinner Party @ Ivy Park!

The weekend, Dinner Party, scheduled on Friday the 15th @ Ivy Park, Sarjarpur Road, went good... Going there @ 1700hrs, the sun was shining and the temp had gone bit high (than normal), i played TT for more than .5 hrs and then switched over to Badminton(Shuttle)!! It was nice playing this after a bit long time (even though i have 2 Badminton rackets, each worth INR 550/-, bought long time back, i harldy played with it!!)...So, it was nice time over there, sweating out by playing! Later on, post 1900hrs, it started raining heavily and we all (around 50people team) had to be off from the open field, into a small shelter! :( There was some small games organized and then it was time to have, the much awaited, dinner! :) It was of ok-types but enjoyed! Finally, started back to home @ 2100hrs and reached @ 2220hrs!!

Bangalore starts drenching!!

Image
So long ago, but not so long ago...had seen rains in Bangalore...but yesterday, proved different... Rains, finally, after a long gap, entered Bangalore and wow! it rained heavily twice in the evening... Finally, namma benda-kaal-ooru has started to drench and possibly, sometime, i will also get drenched! :)

Weekend fun continues...

This weekend was very good one, where time flew away like a rocket!! :) As i said before, the good old ' Apthamitra ' movie took my friday evening and saturday morning! Then, by around 1230hrs, i initiated my favourite hobby, Shopping!! :) I went to Big Bazaar, opened 2 weeks back near my house, vey much a walkable distance...There, after lot of no-no for buying some dress materials, i bought 2 of my old-time favourite Hindi movies...u cant miss and get these type of movies today...never u can dream of getting these...' Chupke Chupke ' and ' Golmaal ' ...wah! wat a movie each one is ....Hats off to Mr. Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who has directed these 2 comedy blockbusters of 1970s...Even though i have seen these movies for a dozen times on TV, i cud not resist myself from owning these masterpieces so that i can see these dozen more times, but whenever i feel to do so...:) [For the same point, my mom was scolding me for spending some good amount on these, each coste

Ever-Beautiful (Late)Soundarya in Apthamitra!

On friday evening, i rented the (much awaited) VCD of the film ' Apthamitra ' ( Kannada )...This movie was on my wishlist from past 3-4 months...but due to one thing or the other, could not make it...but the time came day before for this! [Thatz y ppl say, everything is time dependant! ] :) The film is very good in this kannada version (i had seen the Tamil version, starring Rajnikanth, titled Chandramukhi , 2 months back, but somehow did not impress me much! The orginators of this movie are Malayalam folks, then came Kannada version and then Tamil version...wait for sometime, u vl get Telugu version and Hindi version also!!) where the ever beautiful (Late) Soundarya plays the role of the beautiful dancer ' Nagavalli ' (i dont know why the name has been changed here, since the original Malayalam script had 'Chandramukhi' name for this dancer and the Tamil version also retained that and named the film after this lady!) Soundarya has played superbly in this mov

Corruption to its depth!!

As every weekday morning goes, i was commuting to my work place in my company bus. My usual habit of reading some or the other stuff while commuting (from my home, takes 1+ hrs to reach my workplace!) so that i keep myself busy instead of sitting idle! Today was also the same... At one point, my bus had to stop due to a manual traffic stop. This stop is something like a crowded junction in the making ... This road takes heavy traffic with lot of buses (read: Software comp buses) and trucks moving...After that traffic point, trucks are not allowed to move further up the road and have to take deviation, where they have to travel an additional distance to reach an highway. When my bus was standing in that traffic stop, controlled by a local policeman (i believe he is recruited on a part time basis...given he did not possess the normal Cops uniform), one truck tried to enter the road where truck movements are banned...The ' part-time ' cop stopped him and told the truck driver to t

3 months! and still going....

Got what i am talking about?? Ummm?? ok...am still put on ' paid-bench ' !! With the mgmt guys not ready 2 put me outside and with no ' development ' projs in visibility...am still on bench! Dont know when i vl b a ' Billable ' person...or is it that time has come 2 move out from here?? Need to wait and see for next 1-2 weeks...

1 year in my new company!!

Its been 1 year in my new company today !! Wow! time is flying off like anything! :) Happy Anniversary!! :)

Rocking saturday eve's!!

Hmmm...One more saturday eve came, was there, and went-off!! :) It was a nice saturday eve, where me and 2 of my buddies had planned for a movie in PVR, Forum shopping mall! So, there we were, at around 1615hrs in the Forum mall...man, what a crowd it was on that day!! I can roughly estimate around 1000+ people at that time! I strongly feel, if bangalore gets 10 more of these type of malls, you can find the same number of crowd in all the malls!! This is the craze of bangalore now...:) Coming back to my planned stuff, we could not get tickets to any movie over there (it was almost expected!)...every movie was booked for the whole day as well as for the next day, Sunday!! So, we 3 people, roamed in & around the mall for half-an-hour and then, when our legs [infact, it was mine! :)] got strained out, we decided to have a break and offer something for our stomach! So, we went to McDonalds (me, after a very long time!) and had a delicious ' Paneer Salsa Wrap '! Giving company

Weekend @ Pizza Hut!!

This weekend was good, where i got to go 2 Brigade Road and MG Road, after a long time!! I was feeling bored in my house, on saturday evening and planning to go out, somewhere near my house! But, god heard my woe{??} and a friend of mine called me @ 1800hrs asking me 2 come down 2 Brigade Road, in an hour! One more fellow friend was going 2 join us over there... So, i set out 2 Brigade's and man, what a crowd it was...sometimes, u find it very very jam-packed, like a fish-market...but sometimes, u feel...u can enjoy!! some feast for your eyes! :) We met at around 1900hrs and then we went on from one end of MGRoad to another end and back...one end of Brigade's 2 another end and back...Our legs were paining from this walking and hence we decided 2 go Pizza Hut for a gud pizza [my idea though..:)] and...and...we had !! The pizza was good, supported by Garlic Bread ( with Cheese though) and then by an Apple Pie with Ice-cream as the dessert iterm!! Finally, we walked out of Pizza

A Virtual trip to Europe!

Till 10th June 2005, the past 1.5 months had been a ' wait-n-watch ' period for me, as i was supposed to travel to Europe!! But this stuff had kept on postponing by 2 days, a week, 2 weeks and then more than a month, finally ending up in nowhere!! :(( The proposed Europe project ran into rough weathers and hence it had to be cancelled, shattering my dreams of a short term visit, a good break and what all stuff. So, for the 1.5 months, i had been on ' a virtual tour ' to Europe, dreaming of when i will go there, how i will enjoy the place and other stuff... I still donot understand why god is targetting me at all instance of time! My dreams of going abroad was, is and will remain forever...but still, i donot get the chance of that...how sick is my luck! :( But one good thing is that i got the Visa's, UK Visa and Schengen Visa (for rest of Europe except UK) stamped in my passport, which are valid till the end of November this year! So, some small, corner-sitting hop

More books...:)

This will never end...updating about the books being added in my cupboard! Here are two more to my list... Dan Brown's ' Angels and Demons ' - very exiting stuff.. Dale Carnegie's ' How to Win and Influence People ' - supposedly a very good 'self-help' book of yester years! Wanted to try hands on this... Am currently into the above two plus (Malcolm Gladwell's) ' Tipping Point '...all three going hand-in-hand! :)

Flying to China... 3 years back!

It was a wonderful and anxious day for me, June 7th 2002.. It was the D-Day for me as i was scheduled to fly outside of my motherland, flying International for the very first time !!! [have flied domestic many times, courtesy - my dad! :)] The destination was ShenZhen city in China, on a project deputation (from my ex-employer) for almost 6 months! It was great day and the flight was scheduled to leave @ 0050hrs IST to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia and then from there, it was to Hong Kong! From HK, we had to take a bus (around 65kms), ride to the destination city... ShenZhen is the first entry point to Mainland China, from Hong Kong side. We (me and 2 of my friends) were flying Malaysian Airlines thru out our journey. It was an absolutely wonderful trip...the airports of KL and HK were just breath-takers!! These airports are amazing and i bet u, u cant simply take ur eyes off them!! :) Cut to 2005, June 7th: Today, its been 3 years since i flew outside...I came back to India on Nov 20th 2002

Some more books...

On Saturday, i went to the Landmark, in the Forum shopping mall...Bangalore got this wonderful bookstore a year ago...its very huge, spread across 2 floors, approx 10000sqft each !! There, i purchased 2 books, one called ' Tipping Point ' by Malcolm Gladwell and other ' Teach yourself French ' by some good publishing company and author. But am yet to start with these books.... Rising Sun by Micheal Crichton is keeping me busy...this novel is not good (not that bad either) but ok to read once...am hoping and am looking fwd to complete this book ASAP !! :) Then i will take up the Tipping Point, which i have, from long time, wanted to read! In the meantime, i started off with Dan Brown's latest offering ' Angels and Demons ', an e-book !! Have read his ' The Da Vinci Code ' earlier and liked it a lot, liked the subject first, liked the way he takes off the subject and liked lotz about this... Coming back to his latest book, its bit on the same lines w

Excerpts of 'Winning' by Jack Welch!

Want to Win? Here's Some Practical Advice from Jack Welch Jack Welch, former chairman and chief executive of General Electric, loves to be heard. After retiring from GE four years ago and publishing an autobiography, he has now written a book on his management philosophy, titled Winning, which he is promoting through frequent speeches and media interviews. But, unlike most prodigious talkers, Welch is hardly boring. He advocates candor and practices it, strenuously. Last month Welch visited Wharton to speak to students about his book, co-authored with his wife Suzy. In a packed auditorium, he participated in a fireside chat with Knowledge@Wharton, followed by questions from the students. Here are a few samples of the 'Welchisms' heard during the session: · Distinctions between leadership and managing are "academic hogwash." · "Don't take a job because your mother wants you to. Don't be a victim. You own your decision." ·

New look-n-feel !!

This blog underwent a not-so-major (and not-so-minor too) revamp, in terms of its look-n-feel stuff!! congratulations! :) Earlier, for the last 5 months, i had a nice template which had dark blue background and with some funky dots-style....which made it look good...at the very first instant, i selected that... Now, yesterday, as i was browsing thru the new template section of this blogger, i got hold of this new one (which u r seeing now) and here it is...the very new look-n-feel for my very own personal-log !! How do ya feel? I know, its nice right !! :)

Bench-ed for 2 months!!

Today, its almost 2 months that i am put in ' paid-bench ' section, in my company, doing nothing much !! Expecting a good project soooon...hope, i will not be celebrating 3 months !! :)

New blog for my 'yet-another-interest-field'!
